Tinker Club's Success
at First Lego League
Tinker Club, a STEM education organization in Glendale, made impressive strides in the First Lego League (FLL) robotics competition. In November 2024, the girls' team secured first place, while the boys' team earned third place at the qualifying level, competing with teams from across Los Angeles County. Since its inception in 2018, Tinker Club has been committed to inspiring young learners aged 4-14 in science, engineering, and technology. The organization focuses on equipping students with critical thinking skills and knowledge to thrive in a future shaped by artificial intelligence (AI).
Following their success at the qualifying level, both teams advanced to the regional competition, where they faced top teams from LA and surrounding counties. On December 15, 2024, at La Canada High School, the boys' team excelled, winning first place in the robot game, while the girls' team placed 5th among 33 advanced teams in their age group.
This year’s achievements were especially historic as they marked the formation of Glendale's first Armenian girls' robotics team. Not only did they compete, but they also secured first place in the 9-14 age group, advancing to the state level. Both teams’ accomplishments highlight the power of STEM education and the bright future of Tinker Club’s young innovators
Tinker Club's focus was not on the results but on providing its young students, especially the girls, with the opportunity to be part of this extraordinary experience. The goal was to foster their interest in STEM, despite their beginner-level coding skills and limited English proficiency, which may have affected their performance. The teams competed in robot game challenges, innovation design, and research projects, with judging based on both their presentations and robot performance. Every major success results from the hard work and determination of the students and everyone involved in the process. We are so thankful for our wonderful coaches who guided the team. Jirbert Dilanchian, and Lineli Hairapetian coached the girls' team, and Meher Khechadouri coached the boys' team.
