Course info
Class Duration: 105 minutes
Structure: Advanced Lego Robotics and engineering
Class Size: 5-10 Students
Ratio (Students to Teachers): 6:1
Here students are pushed to apply their coding knowledge to a fun, real-world application: Carnival
rides! Every session the students will build a different ride using LEGOs or other materials, and code the
structure to respond to the instructions written in the code by using sensors, motors, analytical skills, and calculations.
Advanced Lego Robotics and Engineering
This level of Tinker Club does not require a division between coding and hands-on science, since the challenges in each session require both skills during the 105 minute classes. Students continue learning more complex rules of physics by building higher-level engineering structures that can perform their own code, they collect data regarding the mechanism’s performance, and even construct bar graph to present their findings and use this to adjust their design for higher efficiency.
Learning Outcomes
-
Demonstrate solid knowledge of coding using Scratch, and foundational engineering knowledge
-
Develop time management skills to be able to break a big project into sections and smaller tasks amongst a team
-
Increase confidence in public speaking and communicating findings
-
Discover effective scientific approach to gathering and analyzing data, and using math and logic to interpret results
